Gary O. Potter, Author

One does not have to look very hard to find lots of blogs on almost any topic. So, why would I decide to add my voice to the multitude of bloggers? I’m Gary. I have been a counselor in the mental health field for the past 23 years and was a pastoral counselor for 13 years before that. In my 36 years of working with people, I have come to the conclusion that we can not get too many words of encouragement, and there is always so much more to learn. The decision to start this blog has come specifically from the work I have done over the past three years on a book I am publishing by a similar title: Breaking The Performance Trap

I want to use this bog to help us break out of the performance trap mindset. I want to help us get off the self-esteem roller coaster, and learn healthy positive self-acceptance. I also want to continue to learn. I hope to share ideas and insights that I have gained from my experience in the counseling profession and to continue to grow as I hear from you. I recognize I am one voice and there are millions of voices in this world, all with stories and insights that I can, and want to learn from. I am not naive enough to believe that everyone will agree with all the ideas that I have, just like I will likely not agree with all the ideas that other learners might share in response to, and in addition to the things I post. I hope we can use this blog to grow ideas together, challenge by encouragement not attacking, and help all of us be the best version of ourselves we can be.
